Red Deer, Alberta — On Sept. 27, 2021, at 5:24 p.m., Red Deer RCMP received a 911 call of an armed car-jacking that had just occurred in the area of 50 avenue in Red Deer.
Red Deer RCMP’s investigation indicates a male suspect is believed to have been involved in an armed car-jacking in the City of Lacombe that was brought to the attention of the RCMP at approximately 4:35 p.m.—where a “be on the lookout for” (BOLO) had been issued by Lacombe Police Service. It is believed the male suspect abandoned the stolen vehicle associated to the BOLO, then shortly before 5:24 p.m., while armed with a firearm, stole a white Ford car and fled northbound on Gaetz avenue.
Red Deer RCMP located the stolen vehicle and attempted to stop the suspect vehicle; however, it failed to stop. A short time later, the suspect vehicle proceeded through an intersection at 48 street and 49 avenue where it collided with a pick up truck driven by a civilian. Fire services were required on scene to extinguish vehicle fires that were caused by the collision.
EMS attended the scene and provided assistance to both the male suspect and the civilian lone occupant. The suspect sustained serious, but non-life threatening injuries and was taken to hospital for treatment where he remains at this time. The civilian was taken to hospital with injuries that were non-life threatening.
Red Deer RCMP, with the assistance of an RCMP Collision Reconstructionist, continue to investigate this incident. The area of 48 street and 49 avenue remained closed to traffic while Red Deer RCMP completed their examination of the scene.
This investigation is in its preliminary stages and limited information is available.
Further updates will be provided when available.
