Two arrested for weapons offences in Whitehorse, Yukon; “weapons offenses including assault with a weapon”

Whitehorse, Yukon – Whitehorse RCMP safely arrested two men on Saturday, September 25, for weapons offenses including assault with a weapon, possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose, and pointing a firearm.

While investigating reports of a fight, upon response it was quickly established that all individuals were known to each other. Frontline officers set up a roadblock at the Riverdale Bridge near downtown Whitehorse, Yukon, in an attempt to locate the people involved. The roadblock allowed police to efficiently locate a vehicle with two of the four suspects involved in the fight. They were arrested and held for a bail hearing.

A number of items have been seized by police as part of the investigation from the vehicle and the scene of the fight. The victim in this incident had injuries assessed in hospital; for privacy reasons police will not release further details of their identity.

Police continue to attempt to locate two other people involved, and do not believe that there is risk to the general public is at risk at this time.

“Public safety was top priority for police as we investigated this incident,” says Whitehorse RCMP Detachment Commander Lindsay Ellis. “We appreciate cooperation from the public during the investigation, including those who passed through the roadblock at the Riverdale Bridge.”
