Shooting leads to charges against one, attempted murder warrant for another – UPDATED

Maskwacis, Alberta – On Monday, October 4th, 2021, Maskwacis RCMP with the assistance of Wetaskiwin RCMP arrested Rain on his outstanding warrants. Rain was held for a judicial interim release hearing and remanded into custody.

Rain is scheduled to appear in Wetaskiwin Provincial Court, on Tuesday, October 12 2021 at 8:30 a.m., in the City of Wetaskiwin. Maskwacis RCMP would like to thank the public for their assistance.

BACKGROUND

Maskwacis, Alberta – On August 20, 2021, at approximately 3:00 a.m., Maskwacis RCMP responded to a shooting in the Townsite area of the Ermineskin Cree Nation. Early reports indicated that multiple shots were fired and a vehicle fled the scene. Police responded to the area and located two females with serious life threatening injuries. Both were transported to hospital for medical treatment.

Police identified two suspects involved in the shooting and one male has been arrested and charged. Jerry Johnson, a 20-year-old male from Maskwacis, Alta. faces the following criminal code charges:

· Unauthorized possession of a firearm

· Fail to comply with a release order

Johnson was held for a judicial interim release hearing and released on multiple conditions. Johnson is scheduled to appear in Wetaskiwin Provincial Court on Tuesday, October 12 2021 at 8:30 a.m., in the City of Wetaskiwin.

Police identified the second suspect involved and an arrest warrant has been issued. Maskwacis RCMP are requesting the publics assistance in locating Shayden Rain, a 20-year-old male from Maskwacis, Alta. Shayden is charged and wanted for the following criminal code offences:

· Attempted murder with a firearm (X2)

· Discharge firearm with intent (X2)

· Pointing a firearm (X2)

· Unauthorized possession of a firearm

· Using a firearm in the commission of an offence

Rain is described as:

· 5’5” tall

· 119 lbs

· Brown eyes

· Black Hair

Rain is believed to be residing within Maskwacis or the Wetaskiwin area. Rain is considered to be armed and dangerous and should not be approached by the public. If located, you are asked to call 911 immediately.
