Grande Prairie RCMP arrest male after Saturday afternoon crime spree

Grande Prairie Alberta – Grande Prairie RCMP have arrested a 23-year-old male after a Saturday afternoon crime spree.

On Oct. 2, 2021, at approximately 12:35 p.m., Grande Prairie RCMP responded to an armed robbery, near 84 Avenue and Resources Road in Grande Prairie. A male entered a business with an edged weapon, reportedly demanded money along with other merchandise from an employee. The male allegedly broke a plexi-glass barrier and then fled the business without any money or items. No one was physically injured during this incident. Efforts made by police to locate the male at this time were unsuccessful.

At 1:05 p.m. Grande Prairie RCMP responded to a complaint of a break and enter to a residential business located in a residence in the County of Grande Prairie near Range Road 71 and Township Road 710. This male allegedly broke a window and stole several tools from inside the shop and reportedly stole a vehicle from the property. Prior to leaving this area the male was confronted by the property owner. The male reportedly produced an edged weapon and allegedly attempted to assault the property owner. No one was physically injured during this incident. The vehicle that was reported stolen, fled the area driving erratically at high speeds along Range Road 71 and then on Highway 43 in the wrong direction of travel.

At 2:02 p.m. Grande Prairie RCMP responded to a complaint of a vehicle on fire behind a school in the area of 73 Avenue and 104A Street. Police received information that a vehicle, matching the description of the vehicle stolen earlier, had driven into the field behind the school. The driver reportedly exited the vehicle, used an accelerant, lit the vehicle on fire and fled the area on foot. Grande Prairie RCMP officers attended the area, located and arrested a male suspect soon after.

Tyren Field (23) of Grande Prairie, is facing the following charges:

· Break and Enter commit theft

· Assault with a weapon

· Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle

· Arson – damage to property

· Possession of property obtained by crime over $5000

· Resist arrest

· Robbery

Following a judicial hearing Field was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in Grande Prairie Provincial Court on Oct. 18, 2021.
