Ponoka RCMP locate subject on outstanding warrants while attempting to locate an unrelated suspect – Update

Ponoka, Alberta – On Sept. 28, 2021, Ponoka RCMP executed a search warrant at a residence in the Town of Ponoka, Alta. and arrested one female.

Kristina Mae Starr (34) of Ponoka is facing multiple charges:

· Possession of property obtained by crime over $5000. X 2

· Possession of property obtained by crime under $5000. X 5

Kristina Starr was released from custody on conditions to appear in Ponoka Provincial Court on Nov. 19, 2021.

The search resulted in the recovery of the enclosed trailer, a larger flat deck trailer, a number of large mud terrain truck tires, numerous hand and power tools and several bundles of cut copper wiring.

As a result of the search warrant William Russell Johnston is facing the following additional charges:

· Possession of property obtained by crime over $5000. X 2

· Possession of property obtained by crime under $5000. X 5

· Fail to comply with release order

BACKGROUND

Sept. 28, 2021

Ponoka RCMP locate subject on outstanding warrants while attempting to locate an unrelated suspect

Ponoka, Alta. – On Sept. 25, 2021 at approximately 1:00 p.m., Ponoka RCMP attended a residence in the area of 51 Street and 52 Avenue in Ponoka, Alta. in an attempt to locate a suspect with an outstanding warrant.

While in the area, police observed a truck that pulled into the parking lot unrelated to their investigation. A male exited the truck, started looking around the property and engaged in conversation with the officers.

Officers conducted checks on the truck licence plate and vin number and determined the licence plate was stolen out Edmonton, Alta. Further investigation determined that the truck was stolen out of Red Deer, Alta.

William Russell Johnston (42) of Castor, Alta. was arrested on 7 outstanding warrants relating to Criminal and Traffic Safety Act charges.

William Johnston is facing multiple additional charges:

· Possession of property obtained by crime under $5000. X 2

· Obstruct peace officer

· Fail to comply with release order x 6

William Johnston was also charged with Driving while unauthorized under the Traffic Safety Act.

Following a Judicial Hearing, Johnston was remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear in Wetaskiwin Provincial Court on Sept. 28, 2021.
