Beaverlodge RCMP responded to fatal collision on Alberta Highway 43 Sunday evening

Beaverlodge, Alberta – On Oct. 11, 2021, shortly after 5:15 p.m, Beaverlodge RCMP, along with Wembley and Beaverlodge Fire Services and Emergency Medical Services, responded to a serious head on collision involving two vehicles, an SUV and a pick up truck, along Highway 43 near Highway 723, approximately 4 km east of Beaverlodge, Alta.

Traffic was diverted for several hours while Beaverlodge RCMP, along with an RCMP collision reconstructionist, completed an on scene investigation for the cause of the collision.

Preliminary investigation reveals both vehicles had one occupant. The female driver was heading westbound on Highway 43, and the male driver was heading eastbound on Highway 43. The 36-year-old female driver, of Grande Cache, Alta., was transported by STARS to a Grande Prairie area hospital in critical condition, where she later succumbed to her injuries. The 62-year-old male driver, of Hythe, Alta., was treated and remains in hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
