Cochrane RCMP respond to fatal motor vehicle collision between a semi-tractor and SUV

Rocky View County, Alberta – On Oct. 11, at 9:17 p.m., Cochrane RCMP, along with Redwood Meadows and Rocky View County Fire Services and EMS, responded to 911 call of a serious motor vehicle collision between a semi-tractor and SUV.

The collision occurred on Highway 8 just east of Range Road 40.

The preliminary investigation indicates that the SUV was eastbound when it pulled out to pass another vehicle and subsequently was struck by a westbound semi-tractor.

The 33-year-old male driver from Rocky View County and lone occupant of the SUV was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The 63-year-old driver of the semi-tractor from Chilliwack, B.C., sustained minor injuries and was transported to a local area hospital.

Traffic on Highway 8 was diverted between Highway 22 and Range Road 34 for approximately four hours while Cochrane RCMP, along with an RCMP Collision Reconstructionist, completed an on-scene investigation for the cause of the collision.

No charges are anticipated and the name of the deceased will not be released.
