Three deceased following report of capsized boat on Reindeer Lake, straddling the Manitoba / Saskatchewan border

Reindeer Lake, Manitoba – On October 12, 2021, at approximately 3:50 pm, Thompson Rural RCMP received a report of a capsized boat being discovered in the water off of Porcupine Island, which is situated on Reindeer Lake, straddling the Manitoba / Saskatchewan border.

It was reported that a 28-year-old female had been found alive and pulled from the water but that the three other passengers were missing and presumed drowned. The 28-year-old was taken to hospital.

Officers were advised that a boat had left the community of Kinoosao, SK, in the late afternoon of October 11 and was destined for Brochet, MB, but it never arrived. Weather conditions were reported to be windy with rough water.

A search party, consisting of locals from the community of Brochet, headed out onto the water and later located the three deceased individuals, a 50-year-old male, a 49-year-old female and a 42-year-old male, all from Brochet, MB.

Life jackets were not in use at the time.

Thompson Rural RCMP continue to investigate.
