Emerson RCMP respond to fatal single-vehicle rollover

RM of Emerson-Franklin, Manitoba – On October 30, 2021, at approximately 5:30 pm, Emerson RCMP received a report of a single-vehicle rollover on Provincial Road 201, located approximately one kilometre east of Letellier, in the RM of Emerson-Franklin.

The investigation has determined that a westbound vehicle with four occupants lost control and left the roadway, where it entered the ditch and rolled.

Two of the occupants, believed to be a female driver and a female passenger, fled the scene on foot.

Two male passengers, a 30-year-old and a 41-year-old, both from Roseau River First Nation, were ejected from the vehicle. The 30-year-old was pronounced deceased on scene and the 41-year-old was transported to hospital in serious condition, where he remains.

Officers spoke with local residents in the area who provided information as to whom the driver was and where she could be located. The female passenger has yet to be identified.

With the assistance of the Manitoba First Nations Police Service, the 31-year-old female driver was located at her residence. At 7:30 pm, the driver provided a lawful breath demand on an Approved Screening Device (ASD), to which she blew a warning. She was then taken to hospital as it was believed she may have been injured in the collision.

Emerson RCMP, along with a Forensic Collision Reconstructionist and our Criminal Collision Investigation Team, continue to investigate.
