Stony Plain, Alberta – On Nov. 7 at approximately 11:00 AM Parkland RCMP were dispatched to a report of an armed robbery at the North Central Co-Op Pharmacy in Stony Plain. Parkland RCMP members responded to the area very quickly however, the suspect had already fled. The female suspect in this case passed a hand written note to the pharmacist indicating that she had a gun and demanded OxyContin pills. Although a gun was not displayed, the suspect appeared to have something in her pocket that looked like a gun.
While investigating the first robbery, the suspect vehicle was found in a nearby shopping mall parking lot. Parkland RCMP then received a dispatch to another robbery at the Rexall Drugs in Stony Plain at approximately 11:20 AM. As Police were in the parking lot, they quickly located the female suspect as she exited the store. The female suspect appeared to be the same person from the robbery at the Co-Op Pharmacy. She was taken into custody without incident and no one was injured. In this robbery, the female had also indicated she had a gun and demanded Oxycodone.
Julie Kathleen Brendel (48) was charged with Robbery with firearm x 2, Disguised with Intent to Commit Offence x 1, and Uttering Threats x 2. Julie was brought before the Justice of the Peace who released her on a no-cash Recognizance to appear in Stony Plain Provincial Court on Dec. 1, 2021.
