Pincher Creek, Alberta – Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit have made an arrest and laid charges in relation to this incident.
On Nov. 19, 2021, the victim was travelling with another individual from British Columbia to Alberta. During the trip, an interaction occurred resulting in the death of Megan Eekma (34) from southern Alberta.
An autopsy was completed by the Calgary Office of the Chief Medical Examiner on Nov. 22, 2021.
On Nov. 23, 2021 Alberta Major Crimes Unit arrested and charged Melissa Lynn Martens-Lagasse (26) of Medicine Hat, Alta., with first degree murder and an indignity to human remains.
After a judicial hearing, Martens-Lagasse did not speak to bail and is next scheduled to appear in Lethbridge Provincial Court on Nov. 25, 2021.
The Alberta RCMP Major Crimes unit would like to thank the Medicine Hat Police Service for their assistance, as well as RCMP Detachments in southern Alberta who were involved in this investigation.
As these matters are now before the courts, no further information can be provided.

Pincher Creek, Alta. – Alberta RCMP’s Major Crimes Unit continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding a female who was found deceased in a rural area south of Pincher Creek on Nov. 19, 2021. As a result of the ongoing investigation and with tips received from the public, the female was identified. Police are once again asking for the public’s assistance.
Police are seeking dash cam footage from motorists who traveled in the area of Hwy. 505 and Range Road 291A between the hours of 4 pm on Thursday, Nov. 18, 2021, and 8 am on Friday, Nov. 19, 2021. Anyone who may have footage in that area for this time frame, is asked to contact Pincher Creek RCMP at 403-627-6000.
In addition, if anyone saw any suspicious vehicles in the area after dusk on Nov. 18, 2021, they are asked to also please call Pincher Creek RCMP at the number noted above.

Pincher Creek, Alberta – Alberta RCMP’s Major Crimes Unit are requesting the public’s assistance in identifying a female who was found deceased in a rural area south of Pincher Creek. On Nov. 19, 2021, at 7:55 a.m., Pincher Creek emergency services responded to a report of a deceased female. Attempts to identify the female are continuing. She is described as:
· Believed to be Caucasian
· Approximately 5’5, 100 lbs, with a slim build
· Approximately 25-45 years old
· Light brown hair that was dyed an orange or red colour,
· Several tattoos.
The Alberta RCMP’s Major Crime Unit utilized an RCMP Forensic Facial Imaging Artist to complete a composite sketch of the female, and a few of her distinctive tattoos. These sketches are attached, along with a photo of a piece of jewelry she was wearing.
