Parkland County, Alberta – On Nov.25, 2021, Parkland RCMP received 28 reports of collisions due to icy road conditions, many of which involved multiple vehicles. One collision involved minor injuries. An additional 10 calls reported vehicles in ditches, stuck on the road, or blocking roadways entirely and unable to move. Hundreds of people were stranded.
Severe winter weather has arrived, and Parkland RCMP would like to remind the public of extra precautions that should be taken:
If at all possible, avoid driving in heavy snow and freezing rain conditions
If you must drive, go slow and leave extra space between yourself and other vehicles
Keep emergency equipment and warm clothing in your vehicle
Keep your gas tank full and your cell phone charged
With cold weather, we also see an increase in vehicle thefts. Parkland RCMP would like to remind everyone not to leave your vehicles running and unattended for any amount of time. It takes only seconds for an unlocked vehicle to be stolen when the keys are left in the ignition.
