Edson RCMP arrest and charge female driving a stolen truck

Edson, Alberta – On Nov. 26, 2021, at approximately 1:50 a.m., the Edson RCMP were conducting patrols around 1 Avenue and 51 Street and noticed a suspicious truck.

The occupant of the truck then sped away but was eventually located and the truck was stopped by the Edson RCMP. The driver exited the truck and tried to run away on foot but was quickly arrested. Edson RCMP’s investigation showed that the truck had been stolen from Grimshaw, Alta.

The driver, Chantelle Basi (32) with no fixed address, was charged with:

· Possession of stolen property over $5,000

· Possession of a firearm without a license

· Flight from police

· Resisting a peace officer

Following a judicial hearing, Chantelle Basi was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in Edson Provincial Court on Jan. 18, 2022. Basi was also wanted on multiple warrants from different communities in Alberta, including Hinton, Peace River, Spirit River and Edmonton.
