UPDATE: Victim identified in Cranston homicide: Calgary Police

Calgary, Alberta – Investigators continue to investigate the death of a woman in the community of Cranston and have now deemed it a homicide.

At approximately 2:50 p.m., on Thursday, Dec. 2, 2021, we were called to the 500 block of Cranston Drive S.E., for reports of a medical event. Upon arrival, officers found a woman in a parked vehicle who was later pronounced deceased on scene.

An autopsy was completed today by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, which identified the victim as 35-year-old Norma-Jean MUIRHEAD, of Calgary and B.C.

The investigation is ongoing; however, we believe that the victim was targeted.

“We believe this homicide took place in the victim’s vehicle which was parked in a residential community and someone may have seen the events leading up to, or right after, the victim’s death,” said Staff Sergeant Lee Treit, Calgary Police Service Homicide Unit. “We are asking anyone who may have seen suspicious behaviour or witnessed a disturbance in the area between midnight and 6 a.m., on Wednesday, Dec. 1, to contact police.”

Calgary, Alberta – Our Homicide Unit is investigating the suspicious death of a woman in the city’s southeast.

At approximately 2:50 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 2, 2021, we were called to the 500 block of Cranston Drive S.E., for reports of a medical event. Upon arrival, officers found a woman in a parked vehicle who appeared to be unconscious and unresponsive. EMS were also on scene and pronounced the woman deceased.

Our investigators are working to identify the woman and notify next of kin.

An autopsy is scheduled for Friday, Dec. 3, 2021, at 9 a.m., at the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.

The investigation is ongoing, and more details will be provided when available.
