Collision on Alberta Highway 18 in Lac Ste. Anne County claims 34-year-old male and his two dogs

Lac Ste. Anne County, Alberta – On Dec. 4, 2021 at 1:29 a.m., Mayerthorpe RCMP responded to a 911 fatal motor vehicle collision involving a two vehicles on Highway 18 near Highway 757 in Lac Ste. Anne County.

Emergency Medical Services (EMS) and Lac Ste. Anne County Fire Services also responded.

The preliminary investigation indicates that the involved vehicles were travelling on Highway 18 when the car which was southbound crossed the center line and collided with a northbound SUV.

The lone driver of the car, a 34-year-old male from Onoway, Alta. was declared deceased at the scene. Two canines were also located deceased in the vehicle and died as a result of the collision. The dogs were transported by Mayerthorpe RCMP to a local veterinarian. The next of kin has been advised as well as notified of the location of the animals.

The 37-year-old male driver of the SUV was transported by EMS to hospital. The 45-year-old female passenger and 14-year-old female passenger were air-lifted by STARS to an Edmonton Area Hospital. All were reported to have serious non-life threatening injuries. The three occupants of the SUV were from Barrhead, Alta.

The RCMP Collision Analyst attended the scene to assist. The Mayerthorpe RCMP continue to investigate.

The name of the deceased will not be released and no further updates are anticipated.
