Airdrie RCMP respond to fatal motor vehicle collision on Alberta Highway 9, north of Irricana

Irricana, Alberta – On Dec. 22, 2021 at 12:40 a.m., Airdrie RCMP as well as Rocky View County Fire and Emergency Medical Services responded to a 911 call of a serious two vehicle collision on Highway 9 just south of Range Road 262, north of Irricana.

Two cars with significant damage were located at the scene.

The RCMP Collision analyst attended the scene to assist with the investigation.

The preliminary investigation indicates that the car travelling southbound on Highway 9 crossed the center line and collided with the northbound car.

The lone female driver in her 70’s of the southbound vehicle and the lone female driver in her 50’s in the northbound vehicle were both declared deceased at the scene.

Traffic was diverted while the collision scene was investigated.

The incident remains under investigation, however alcohol is not believed to be a contributing factor. Additional details are unable to be provided at this time pending the next of kin notification. The names of the deceased will not be released.
