Winnipeg, Manitoba – On January 29, 2022, at approximately 1:40 p.m., a male suspect was at a shelter in the South Point Douglas area when he became involved in an argument with another man. The argument escalated, and the suspect aggressively brandished a knife.
Shelter staff attempted to deescalate the situation while the Winnipeg Police Service was contacted; however, the suspect fled the building in an attempt to find the other man (who had just left on foot).

A Central District General Patrol unit located and confronted the suspect as he was waving the knife at staff outside the building. Soon after, the male dropped the weapon and was safely taken into custody.
There were no physical injuries as a result of the incident.
A 31-year-old male of Winnipeg is facing charges of:
– Possession of a Weapon
– Carrying Concealed Weapon Prohibited Device or Ammunition
– Causing a Disturbance
– Fail to Comply with Condition of Release Order
He was released on an Undertaking (as mandated by the Criminal Code).
