Nanaimo, BC – Just after 10:30 a.m. on January 28, the Nanaimo RCMP received report of a possible shooting at a residence in the 200 block of Needham St in Nanaimo.
RCMP frontline members immediately attended and located several individuals inside a residence, two suffering from serious injuries. One male was suffering from a firearm injury, and another male was suffering from what appeared to be an assault. Other individuals were suffering from the lasting effects of being bear sprayed.
“The Nanaimo RCMP strongly suspect that the suspects and the victims are known to each other, and there is no threat to the public at this time,” said Sergeant Chris Manseau, Media Relations Officer for the BC RCMP. “Investigators are currently conducting statements and speaking with neighbors, canvassing for eye witnesses and possible video surveillance.”
The Nanaimo RCMP Serious Crimes Unit has conduct of the investigation. Although the investigation is still in early stages, initial indications are that the shooting was targeted.
