Coaldale RCMP respond to fatal motor vehicle collision on Alberta Highway 25 near Picture Butte – UPDATED

Picture Butte, Alberta – On Feb. 25, 2022 at approximately 4:45 p.m. Coaldale RCMP responded to serious motor vehicle collision on Highway 25 between Township Road 102 and 104.

The investigation reveals that a southbound car crested a hill where it lost control and entered the northbound lane and was struck on the passenger side by a northbound car.

The 18-year-old female from Coaldale, Alta., and lone driver of the car was transported to hospital by Emergency Medical Services (EMS) however died in hospital as a result of the critical injuries sustained in the collision.

The occupants of the northbound car, a female driver (25), male passenger (24), and male passenger (4) from the Picture Butte area were all transported to hospital by EMS with non-life threatening injuries.

The RCMP Collision analyst attended the scene and assisted with the investigation.

Portions of Highway 25 were reported to have icy conditions due to blowing snow and this is believed to have been a contributing factor in the collision.

The name of the deceased will not be released and no further updates are anticipated.

Picture Butte, Alberta – (7:10 PM) Coaldale RCMP are currently on scene of a serious motor vehicle collision on Hwy 25 between Twp. 102 and Twp. 104 near Picture Butte. Unfortunately, at least one person is confirmed deceased. It is anticipated that the highway will be closed in both directions for several hours while RCMP investigate the circumstances that led to this tragic event.
