Grande Prairie RCMP arrest male involved in multiple incidents

Grande Prairie, Alberta – On Jan. 17, 2022, at 4:41 p.m., Grande Prairie RCMP received a report of a vehicle located in a ditch that was on fire in the area of Range Road 60 and Township Road 700 in the County of Grande Prairie. Officers received a report that a male and female had been seen walking away from the scene. It was later determined that the burned vehicle had been reported stolen out of Beaverlodge, Alta. on Nov. 26, 2021.

At approximately 4:49 p.m., while officers were en route to the vehicle fire, Grande Prairie RCMP received a report of a vehicle being stolen from an area located a short distance away.

When officers arrived, they located a female believed to be related to the vehicle fire. Preliminary investigation revealed the female had a warrant unrelated to the investigation and was subsequently arrested and released at the scene on an appearance notice.

Further investigation revealed that the male believed to be related to the vehicle fire had allegedly stolen a black 2009 Dodge Ram 3500 and had fled the area in an unknown direction without the female.

Grande Prairie RCMP continued their investigation and attempts to located the male suspect and stolen vehicle.

On March 7, 2022, at approximately 2:48 p.m., Grande Prairie RCMP located the male suspect at a property in the area of Range Road 91 and Township Road 712 near Wembley, Alta. Grande Prairie RCMP with the assistance of Grande Prairie RCMP Police Dog Services attended the property and determined that the male suspect was located inside a barn on the property.

Grande Prairie RCMP officers entered the barn and located the male suspect inside a large truck. The male suspect refused to exit the truck and attempted to drive through the closed barn doors, almost striking officers inside the barn. The truck also struck a RCMP police vehicle parked outside the barn doors and continued striking the police vehicle until the truck was able to flee. The male suspect then fled the property, almost striking officers located outside the barn and striking another RCMP police vehicle.

Officers pursued the truck on Highway 43 towards Beaverlodge, Alta. Upon entering the town of Beaverlodge, officers observed the truck slow down. The male suspect then exited the truck, fleeing from police on foot. The male was arrested shortly after with the assistance of Grande Prairie RCMP Police Dog Services.

Further investigation revealed that the truck driven by the male was the same truck that had been reported stolen on Jan. 17, 2022.
