Lethbridge, Alberta – In January 2021, Coaldale RCMP received a report of a historical sexual assault of an adult female which had occurred in Lethbridge. As this incident had occurred in Lethbridge, jurisdiction for the investigation was with the Lethbridge Police Service (LPS); however, as the individual identified as a suspect in the investigation was a retired LPS officer, the investigation remained with the Alberta RCMP at the request of LPS.
The Southern Alberta District RCMP General Investigation Section (SAD GIS) took over carriage of this investigation and determined incidents are alleged to have occurred between December 2017 and April 2018, related to the 63-year-old male suspect’s employment with the Domestic Violence Action Team in Lethbridge.
This investigation has resulted in charges being laid against William (Bill) James Kaye (63) of Lethbridge for:
Breach of trust
On March 10, 2022, Kaye turned himself into the Alberta RCMP and was arrested. Following a judicial hearing, he was released on conditions to appear in Lethbridge Provincial Court on March 28, 2022.
As these matters are now before the courts, no further details surrounding these charges can be provided.
SAD RCMP GIS is continuing their investigation and are asking the public to come forward with any similar type incidents.
