ASIRT investigating officer-involved shooting in Downtown Edmonton

Edmonton, Alberta – At approximately 6:30 a.m. on Friday, March 25, 2022, Downtown Branch officers observed a suspect with what appeared to be a firearm in his hands at 103A Avenue and 96 Street.

The officers maintained visual contact with the suspect as assistance was requested and Tactical and Canine officers attended to contain the area for public safety.

The suspect fled from police toward the light-rail transit (LRT) tracks along 95 Street and 105 Avenue where a confrontation occurred and police discharged their firearms. Officers and EMS provided medical aid on scene and the suspect was transported to hospital where he succumbed to his injuries later this morning.

No EPS officers were injured during this incident.

The Director of Law Enforcement was notified of the incident and has directed the Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) to investigate. As such, the EPS cannot provide any additional information at this time.
