UPDATE: Found human remains determined to belong to Grande Prairie woman previously reported Missing

Grande Prairie, Alberta – On Mar. 24, 2022, at approximately 8:05 p.m., Grande Prairie RCMP responded to a report of found human remains in the area of 102 Street and 92 Avenue in Grande Prairie, Alta.

The remains are confirmed to be those of Shelly Smith (33), of Grande Prairie, who had been reported missing in December 2021.

The next-of-kin notification has been completed.

An autopsy was completed by the Edmonton Office of the Chief Medical Examiner and the circumstances surrounding the death is not believed to be suspicious.

Our sincerest condolences go out to Shelly’s family and friends.

No further updates are anticipated.

Grande Prairie RCMP investigate found human remains

Grande Prairie, Alta. – Grande Prairie RCMP General Investigation Section is investigating found human remains in Grande Prairie.

On Mar. 24, 2022, at 8:05 p.m., Grande Prairie RCMP received a report of human remains in the snow in the area of 102 Street and 92 Avenue in Grande Prairie.

The circumstances surrounding the death of this individual are unknown at this time.

RCMP are expected to be on scene over the weekend and would appreciate the public’s cooperation by avoiding the area. Investigators do not believe there is any threat to public safety as it relates to this death.

No further information will be provided until after an autopsy can be performed.

Grande Prairie RCMP seek assistance in locating missing person

Grande Prairie, Alberta – Shelly Lynn Smith (33) was reported missing to the Grande Prairie RCMP on Dec. 3, 2021. Shelly has not been located and RCMP continue to actively seek information about Shelly’s whereabouts.

Police are very concerned for Shelly’s well-being and her ability to manage while on her own as she has a medical condition and requires medication.

An additional description of Shelly is described as:

· 5’4”

· Average build

· Chin length brown hair with blond highlights

· Wears glasses

An additional description of what Shelly was last seen wearing is described as:

· Off-white down filled jacket with fur lined hood

· Black or brown zipper boots

· Blue jeans

Shelly was last seen at approximately 11:00 a.m. on Dec. 1, 2021, in the area of 101 Avenue and 97A Street in Grande Prairie, Alta. Shelly has been known to travel to areas throughout Alberta, British Columbia, and Saskatchewan.
