UPDATE: RCMP Serious Crimes Branch investigate suspicious packages reported in the area of 50th Street and 45th Avenue in Entwistle, Alberta; “package contained an Improved Explosive Device (IED)”

Parkland County, Alberta – On April 8, 2022 the RCMP Serious Crimes Branch took carriage of two complaints related to suspicious packages.

At approximately 9:00 a.m. Apr. 8th, 2022, a suspicious package was reported in the area of 50th Street and 45th Avenue in Entwistle, Alberta. The RCMP’s Explosive Disposal Unit (EDU), RCMP Police Dog Services (PDS) with support from Yellow Head Country Fire Services, Parkland County Peace Officers and Fish & Wildlife Officers responded to the immediate area.

Police investigation continues into this incident. Confirmation through the assistance of RCMP Forensic Identification Services was that this suspicious package contained an Improved Explosive Device (IED).

At 1:00 p.m. on Apr. 8th, 2022, the Parkland RCMP responded to a complaint from security officers with Trans Mountain Pipeline of a suspicious package in the area of Range Road 43 and Township Road 531. Parkland RCMP were supported in their initial response and on going investigation into this incident by RCMP EDU, PDS, RCMP Air Services, FIS and RCMP Serious Crimes Branch – General Investigation Section.

Police investigation into this Parkland incident continues. Police can confirm for the public that this location in relation to the Trans Mountain Pipeline was not an explosive device, and is not connected to the incident in Entwistle.

The RCMP want to thank the community for their patience during these investigations. The locations to these incidents were approximately 15 kilometers apart from one another. “The dedication to public safety” says Cst. Patrick Lambert – Media Relations Group, “and quick reporting by our community citizens and partners lead to early investigative actions by the Evansburg RCMP and Parkland RCMP.”

Evansburg, Alta. – Evansburg RCMP are advising there is a police presence in the area of 50 St. and 45 Ave., south of the Esso, in Entwhistle, Alta. RCMP are asking everyone to stay clear of the area.
