Nanaimo, BC – The BC RCMP has notified the Independent Investigations Office of British Columbia (IIO BC) of an incident in Nanaimo where one man has suffered serious injuries.
On April 22, 2022 at approximately 3:30 pm Nanaimo RCMP responded to a complaint of an intoxicated man being verbally aggressive to a fellow tenant in a home.
The attending officers arrested the man for uttering threats and transported him to Nanaimo RCMP cells.

Upon arrival the man reportedly became aggressive and an altercation ensued between the man and one police officer. During the course of the altercation the man was injured. Emergency Health Services were called and he was transported to hospital where it was determined he had suffered injuries to his leg and arm.
Please note that all aspects and circumstances of this incident will be the subject of independent investigation by the IIO BC. As the matter is now under investigation by the IIO BC, no further information will be released by police.
