Edmonton, Alberta – The Edmonton Police Service’s Commercial Vehicle Investigation Unit pulled 113 commercial vehicles off the road for failing to meet various safety compliance regulations during its recent three-day spring inspection event.
Between May 10, 2022 and May 12, 2022, EPS, along with its municipal and provincial partners, held their Spring Commercial Vehicle Check and completed 263 inspections. Of these inspections, 86 vehicles passed, with 113 vehicles placed out of service, including 17 being towed due to their dangerous condition. In total, 733 violations were found over the three-day operation.
“These numbers show an improvement of standards from last year, where over half of the vehicles were taken out of service, but there is still work to be done,” says Sergeant Dave Beattie with the EPS Commercial Vehicle Investigation Unit. “The results are not indicative of the industry as a whole, as these checks generally do not capture statistics relating to long haul carriers, but rather those working in and around Edmonton.”
