Parkland RCMP conduct search warrant resulting in drug and weapons charges for Edmonton woman

Edmonton, Alberta – On Feb. 9, 2022, Parkland RCMP initiated an investigation into 26-year- old Chanelle Vandal-Lauman of Edmonton, after receiving information that she was trafficking methamphetamine.

Parkland RCMP’s Crime Reduction Unit and Parkland RCMP’s Drug Unit worked in partnership to conduct surveillance and were able to observe multiple instances consistent with drug trafficking.

During the investigation, police were also able to identify a male who had an outstanding Canada-wide warrant for being unlawfully at large. 30-year-old Sidney Goossens of Edmonton was apprehended in cooperation with Edmonton Police Service.

On May 10, 2022, Parkland RCMP’s Crime Reduction Unit and Drug Unit conducted a search warrant on Chanelle Vandal-Lauman’s residence in Edmonton. The search resulted in the successful recovery of illicit drugs believed to be methamphetamine, cocaine, and fentanyl, as well as tools used in the drug trafficking trade.

During the search police also located a loaded handgun, ammunition, firearm parts, a machete, throwing knives, hard body armour, a security guard uniform, face coverings, zip ties, and break in tools.

At the time of her arrest, Chanelle Vandal-Lauman was bound by a Conditional Sentence Order stemming from a previous drug-related conviction. The order included conditions not to possess any intoxicating substances and not to possess any weapons.

Chanelle Vandal-Lauman is facing the following charges:

· Possession for the purposes of trafficking x3

· Possession of property obtained by crime

· Unauthorized possession of a firearm

· Possession of a restricted firearm with ammunition without a licence

· Careless use of a firearm

· Tampering with serial number of a firearm

· Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose

· Unlawful possession of body armour without a valid permit

· Possession of counterfeit money

· Breach of Conditional Sentence Order

Chanelle Vandal-Lauman remains in custody. She is set to appear in court on June 1, 2022, at Stony Plain Courthouse via CCTV.
