Suspects in Canmore bike thefts and frauds charged after attempting to use a fraudulent credit card at a local business

Canmore, Alberta – On June 8, 2022, at approximately 15:30 hrs, Canmore RCMP were alerted to a report of a male attempting to use a fraudulent credit card at a local business in Canmore. RCMP attended and located two males sitting in a vehicle and they were identified as targets of a month long Canmore investigation into numerous bike thefts and frauds. Both males were arrested and their vehicle seized. A search warrant was obtained for the car and once executed, officers located the following:

· numerous counterfeit credit cards

· identity documents

· break in instruments

· instruments to forge licence plates

· other property which was obtained by crime

Melody Velasquez (37) of Calgary, Alta., was charged with a total of 21 offences, some of which include:

Use of a Forged Document x 3

Possession of stolen property x 2

Fraudulent use of a credit card

Possession of break-in instrument

Identity Theft x 4

Unauthorized possession of a Weapon

Theft Under $5000 x 4

Mischief Under $5000

Velasquez was released from custody and will be appearing in Canmore Provincial Court on June 29, 2022.

Elmer Collo (43) of Calgary, Alta., was charged with 8 offences, some of which include:

Use of a Forged Document x 2

Possession of stolen property

Fraudulent use of a credit card

Possession of break-in instrument

Collo was released from custody and will be appearing in Canmore Provincial Court on June 28, 2022.
