Winnipeg Police investigate a homicide, firearms, drugs, as well as several shooting and stabbing incidents over the weekend

Winnipeg, Manitoba – On June 12, 2022, at approximately 5:00 a.m., General Patrol officers responded to an apartment block in the 600 block of Broadway Avenue for a report of a seriously injured male. He was transported to hospital in unstable condition and succumbed to his injuries.

The deceased victim has been identified as Austin Mark CHIEF, 24, of Winnipeg.

Homicide – Investigation: C22-127134

Winnipeg, Manitoba – On June 12, 2022, at approximately 5:30 a.m., police were contacted regarding a gunshot victim who transported themselves to Health Sciences Centre. Police met with the victim in his twenties, who had a lower-body injury and was in stable condition.

He reported that while driving in the 300 block of Sherbrook Street, shots struck his vehicle. He immediately drove himself to the hospital. No arrests have been made at this time.

Shooting – Investigation: C22-127141

Winnipeg, Manitoba – On June 13, at approximately 1:30 a.m., police were contacted regarding a gunshot victim who arrived on their own to hospital. A 16-year-old male shot in the upper body was transported in unstable condition (possibly by taxi) and later upgraded to stable condition. The victim could not provide many details of the incident at the time.

Shooting – Investigation: C22-127804

On June 10, 2022, at 6:48 p.m., members of the Winnipeg Police Service responded to the 500 block of Flora Avenue for a report of a male who had been stabbed.

Upon arrival, officers located an injured 36-year-old male and provided emergency medical care. The victim was subsequently transported to a hospital in critical condition.

At 9:33 p.m., a female suspect was located in the 400 block of Selkirk Avenue and placed under arrest.

Members of the Major Crimes Unit continued with the investigation. It is believed that the victim and suspect were previously unknown to each other but were together at a residence when the stabbing occurred.

Heavenly Woodhouse, a 22-year-old female of Winnipeg, has been charged with:

– Aggravated Assault

She was detained in custody.

Stabbing – Arrest: C22-125785

Winnipeg, Manitoba – On June 11, 2022, at 1:19 a.m., members of the Winnipeg Police Service responded to the 1300 block of Elgin Avenue West for a report of a male that had been stabbed.

Upon arrival, officers located an injured 21-year-old male and provided emergency medical care. The victim was subsequently transported to a hospital in critical condition.

Two other male victims, both in their 20s, were discovered with minor injuries.

At 1:34 a.m., two male suspects were located in the 1200 block of Alexander Avenue and placed under arrest.

Members of the Major Crimes Unit continued with the investigation. It is believed that the two groups (victims and suspects) were previously unknown to each other when they had an encounter at a nearby park before the incident. It is believed that the critically injured victim also had his shoes stolen from him.

Noah Logan Lavalee, an 18-year-old male of Winnipeg, has been charged with:

– Aggravated Assault

– Assault with a Weapon (x2)

– Robbery

– Possession of a Weapon

A 17-year-old male of Winnipeg has been charged with:

– Aggravated Assault

– Assault with a Weapon (x2)

– Robbery

– Possession of a Weapon

Both were detained in custody.

Stabbing – Arrests: C22-126108

Winnipeg, Manitoba – The Major Crimes Unit is investigating a stabbing that occurred on June 11, at approximately 4:00 a.m.

Police were called to a residence in the 200 block of Burrows Avenue. Two suspects deployed pepper spray through the backdoor of residence, sending an adult male resident (victim) to exit. Once outside, the victim was stabbed in the upper and lower body, and the suspects fled on foot.

General Patrol officers arrived and administered emergency medical care, by applying a tourniquet. The victim was transported to hospital in stable condition.

It is not yet determined if the victim and suspects were previously known to each other.

Stabbing – Investigation: C22-126200

In June 2022, the Guns & Gangs Unit began an investigation into a female who was believed to be coordinating the sale of crack cocaine on behalf of a street gang.

On June 12, 2022, at approximately 10:50 a.m., two suspects were arrested in the area of Ellice Avenue and Minto Street. A search of the taxi cab they had been in, along with their property, resulted in the seizure of several items, including the following:

– a 9mm calibre handgun with an auto sear implemented to make it fully automatic (prohibited firearm)

– an extended magazine loaded with 21 9mm calibre cartridges (prohibited device)

– 15 ounces of crack cocaine (estimated street value of $34,000)

– 12 grams of cocaine (estimated street value of $960)

– $2,030 Canadian currency

In addition, 40 Tylenol 3 pills (estimated street value of $120) were located on one suspect. The other suspect was found to possess 17 grams of crack cocaine (estimated street value of $1,360), 10 Xanax pills (estimated street value of $1,000) and $1,000 in Canadian currency.

Soon after, a pair of search warrants (Criminal Code & Controlled Drugs and Substances Act) were executed at a residence in the 400 block of Dufferin Avenue. A number of items were seized, including the following:

– 9mm calibre ammunition

– .308 calibre ammunition

– .22 calibre ammunition

– score sheets

– a bulletproof vest

Samantha Lee Bruyere, a 43-year-old female of Peguis First Nation, Manitoba, has been charged with:

– Possession of Firearm, Restricted/Prohibited Weapon or Ammunition Contrary to Prohibition Order (x3)

– Possession of a Firearm Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized

– Possession of a Prohibited Device or Ammunition Knowing its Poss is Unauthorized (x2)

– Possession of a Prohibited or Restricted Firearm with Ammunition

– Possession of a Firearm, Prohibited or Restricted Weapon Obtained by Crime

– Possession of a Scheduled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Cocaine (x2)

– Possession of Proceeds of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000

– Possess body armour without a valid permit or in a manner inconsistent with the valid permit (The Body Armour and Fortified Vehicle Control Act)

Monique Aileen Marie Duhard, a 52-year-old female of Rathwell, Manitoba, has been charged with:

– Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm

– Unauthorized Possession of a Prohibited Device or Ammunition (x2)

– Possession of a Prohibited or Restricted Firearm with Ammunition

– Possession of a Firearm, Prohibited or Restricted Weapon Obtained by Crime

– Possession of a Scheduled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Cocaine

– Possession of Proceeds of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000

– Possession of Scheduled Substance – Codeine

Both were detained in custody.
