Edmonton, Alberta – Police have charged a 34-year-old man in connection with two shootings and continue to seek the public’s assistance in identifying and locating two outstanding suspects.
On August 29, 2021, police responded to a shooting at the Duggan Community Hall located in the area of 37 Avenue and 106 Street, which resulted in the death of Hamza Mohamed, 22. Shortly after the incident, police charged two men in relation to this homicide while the investigation continued.
On March 12, 2022, another shooting occurred at a lounge located at 124 Street and 118 Avenue, resulting in the death of Imbert George, 28. Following an extensive investigation by Firearms Investigation Unit (FIU), under the EPS’ Organized Crime Branch, Alinur Mohamed Mussa, 34 was identified for his role in discharging a firearm. Subsequent investigations also identified him as a suspect in the Duggan Community Hall shooting.
On June 27, 2022, police located Mussa in a vehicle and officers were able to take four occupants into custody, including Mussa.
FIU investigators subsequently obtained search warrants for a residence and vehicle associated to Mussa and located two loaded handguns, one with a defaced serial number and the other with an over-capacity magazine, two prohibited extended magazines, evidence from the 2022 lounge shooting, 7.1 grams of cocaine, and evidence of fraud.
Alinur Mohamed Mussa, 34, is facing 20 charges in relation to these incidents, including attempted murder, aggravated assault (x3), possession of weapons contrary to order (x4), possession of restricted firearm with ammunition (x3), discharging firearm with intent (x2), and possession of firearm in vehicle (x2).
Yahye Abdinasir Alibarre, 28, is also charged with possession of restricted firearm with ammunition (x2), possession of firearm in vehicle (x2), possession of prohibited device (x2), and possession of firearm with defaced serial number in relation to the traffic stop conducted on June 27, 2022. The other occupants of the vehicle did not face charges.
Neither Mussa or Alibarre had firearms licenses.
Police continue to seek the whereabouts of Saed Osman, 27, wanted on a Canada-wide warrant for first-degree murder in relation to the lounge shooting (March 12, 2022). Investigators are also looking to identify a fourth suspect in the same incident.
