Kananaskis, Alberta – On July 11, 2022, at approximately 3 p.m., a search team recovered the body of a deceased male from the water in Spray Lakes. The deceased has been identified as one of two missing boaters whose boat capsized on July 10, 2022.
Canmore RCMP along with Kananaskis Emergency Services, Alberta Conservation Officers and a cadaver dog continue their search for the other missing male boater.

Canmore RCMP respond to report of a drowning
Kananaskis, Alta. – On July 10, 2022, at approximately 2 p.m., Canmore RCMP were dispatched to a report of a capsized boat in the Spray Lakes campground area, of the Spray Valley Provincial Park. There were four occupants in the boat at the time it capsized. One person was self rescued, one was confirmed deceased, and two remain unaccounted for. Kananaskis Emergency Services, Alberta Conservation Officers and RCMP are continuing search efforts.
Further details cannot be provided on the occupants of the boat at this time pending their identification and notification of next of kin.
Adequate resources are currently in place for the search operation. At this time, Canmore RCMP are asking the public to avoid the area.
