Vulcan RCMP investigate fatal collision on Alberta Highway 23

Champion, Alberta – On July 16, 2022, at 5:25 p.m., Vulcan RCMP along with Fire Services attended a two-vehicle collision at the intersection of Highway 23 and Highway 529 between a pickup truck and an SUV.

The pickup truck was traveling southbound on Highway 23 when it was struck on the driver side by the westbound SUV, who was travelling on Highway 529. The 55-year-old male driver and lone occupant of the pickup truck was pronounced deceased on scene. The 34-year-old male driver of the SUV, along with two young children who were travelling in the back seat, were taken by ground ambulance to Calgary hospitals. The 33-year-old female passenger was airlifted by STARS and her condition is not known at this time.

The intersection was closed for several hours while the RCMP Collision Reconstructionist was on scene.
