Nanaimo RCMP release picture of suspect in Laguna Way shooting

Nanaimo, BC – The investigation into a brazen early evening shooting in a north end Nanaimo neighbourhood continues with investigators releasing a photo of one of the suspects.The shooting, which sent an adult man to hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries, occurred at approximately 8 PM on Thursday July 7, 2022, outside a residence on Laguna Way. Investigators have determined that the shooting resulted from a dispute between the suspect and a resident in the home, and culminated with the suspect shooting the victim in the leg.

The image released shows the suspect walking up the driveway towards the victim’s home just prior the shooting. Of note, the identity of another suspect is also being sought. While there are no images of this individual, this individual was known to be driving an older model white Honda Accord as the getaway vehicle.

BACKGROUND

Mounties investigate shooting

One person has been taken to hospital with serious non life threatening injuries after a reported shooting. The incident occurred at approximately 8 PM on Thursday July 7, 2022, outside a residence in north Nanaimo.

Numerous officers responded to the incident. The injured person, a man in his early 30’s, was treated at the scene by attending BC Paramedics then transported to hospital. Police spoke with several witnesses who observed the suspect flee in a vehicle.

“There were no other reported injuries and from information gathered to date, this appears to have been an isolated incident,” said R/Constable Gary O’Brien of the Nanaimo RCMP
