Calgary, Alberta – A three-month investigation into drug trafficking within the downtown area led investigators to a significant seizure in drugs and contraband cigarettes, as well as the arrest of one man.
On Wednesday, July 13, 2022, a suspect was observed driving a vehicle that was believed to have been stolen and fraudulently registered. A traffic stop was conducted and a number of drugs were located within the vehicle, as well as $4,050 in cash. The stolen vehicle, worth approximately $35,000, was recovered and returned to the original owner.
The driver was charged with three counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking, one count of proceeds of crime, and one count of possession of stolen property over $5,000.
A passenger in the vehicle at the time of the traffic stop was found to be breaching his conditions of release for parole related to an aggravated sexual assault and was subsequently arrested and returned to jail.
Over the next two days, the driver was once again observed conducting activity consistent with drug trafficking and was once again arrested.
A search warrant for the driver’s residence was sought and on Saturday, July 16, 2022, officers executed the search warrant at a residence in the 1300 block of 38 Street S.E. Items seized from the residence included:
29.3 grams of fentanyl
474 grams of methamphetamine
68 grams of crack cocaine
6 litres of GHB (gamma-hydroxybutyrate)
39 cartons containing 7,800 contraband cigarettes
In total, David Yen WONG, 53, has been charged with:
Six counts of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking
Two counts of proceeds of crime
One count of possession of stolen property over $5,000
Two counts of breach of a release order
He remains in custody pending his next court appearance on Thursday, July 28, 2022.
