Airdrie RCMP lay charges in road rage incident

Airdrie, Alberta – On Aug. 1, 2022, at 8:45 p.m., Airdrie RCMP responded to the QEII Highway at Yankee Valley Blvd. for a report of an erratic driver. A silver sedan was reportedly speeding while travelling southbound on QEII. The driver of the sedan allegedly got into a verbal altercation with another southbound vehicle before pointing a firearm at the vehicle.

RCMP located a vehicle matching the description in the Meadowbrook neighbourhood where officers took an Airdrie resident into custody. A search of the vehicle resulted in an airsoft gun being located.

Shawn David Desharnais (42) of Airdrie was taken before a Justice of the Peace and released on a no cash recognizance to appear in Airdrie court on Aug. 25, 2022. Desharnais has been charged with the following criminal offences:

· Pointing a firearm

· Possession of a firearm in a vehicle

· Careless use of a firearm
