Calmar, Alberta – In July 2022, Leduc RCMP Drug Unit with the assistance of Alberta Law Enforcement Response Team (ALERT) entered into a Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA) investigation in the area of Calmar.
On July 28, 2022, Leduc RCMP Drug Unit with the assistance of Leduc Detachment members, Crime Reduction Unit and the General Investigation Section, executed a search warrant at a residence in the area of 47 Street and 49 Avenue in Calmar.
A search of the residence and a vehicle located in Leduc, Alta. resulted in the seizure of approximately 35 grams of cocaine, 64 grams of methamphetamine, 2 grams of fentanyl, a quantity of Canadian currency, several digital scales and drug packaging.
Elton Daniel Widney (38) of Calmar, Alta. has been charged with the following offences:
· Trafficking in a controlled substance (x5) – methamphetamine
· Possession for the purpose of trafficking – cocaine
· Possession of proceeds of crime (x6)
Following a judicial hearing, Widney was released on conditions to appear in Leduc provincial court on Aug. 11, 2022.
“Leduc RCMP is committed to targeting those responsible for supplying methamphetamine and other illicit drugs to the community. The seizure of these drugs from the streets will undoubtedly save lives,” says Cpl. Fred De Billy.
