Lethbridge, Alberta – Lethbridge Police are seeking the public’s assistance in identifying a male subject in connection with an investigation into counterfeit currency.

Police responded to a report on Aug. 15, 2022 that a male customer made a purchase at a Lethbridge business using counterfeit bills. It wasn’t until after he had left the premises that the staff member determined the five, $20-bills were not legitimate currency.

While the print quality was good, there were several discrepancies between the bills passed and legitimate currency, including one common serial number on all five. The counterfeit bills did not feature the polymer material or holograms of authentic currency, ‘Canada’ was misspelled and they were marked ‘not legal tender’ and for ‘film production’ only.

Anyone who has information that could assist the investigation is asked to contact police at 403-328-4444 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477, and reference file #22017718.
