Didsbury RCMP on scene of serious ‘brake check’ road rage collision; “child under 5-years of age was ejected”

Mountain View County, Alberta – Didsbury RCMP are on scene of a serious traffic collision following reports of road rage by a white truck passing vehicles. At 4:10 pm, August 27th, 2022 a suspect vehicle, described only as a white truck overtook a family SUV, breaking aggressively in front of them. The SUV lost contact with the road surface while attempting to avoid a rear end collision with the suspect vehicle.

The suspect truck and family SUV were both travelling south bound on Hwy 2, approximately 2 km south of the Hwy 581 over pass near Carstairs, AB. The SUV rolled through the median ditch before coming to rest along the fence.

As a result of the SUV rolling, one child under 5-years of age was ejected from the vehicle and is in life threatening condition, having been flown by STARS Air Ambulance to hospital. The four other occupants, two children and two adults are also in serious condition and were transported by ground ambulance to area hospital. The suspect vehicle did not remain.

Emergency medical services along with the RCMP collision analyst are in attendance.

Highway 2, north and south bound are restricted south of Hwy 581 to one lane of travel in either direction. Traffic will be disrupted for the next several hours while police investigate. Motorists are asked to seek alternate routes.

Didsbury RCMP are asking that anyone who may have witnessed the collision or who may have dashboard camera footage of the collision to contact the Didsbury RCMP.

An update will be provided once the scene is clear.
