Lethbridge Police charge male in connection with assault with a weapon investigation; “punched her in the face, shot her in the back with a BB gun”

Lethbridge, Alberta – Lethbridge Police charged an 18-year-old male early Saturday in connection with an assault with a weapon incident in August.

A 24-year-old Lethbridge woman reported she had been assaulted in the 1100 block of Mayor Magrath Drive South on Aug. 9, 2022 while walking home from work. A verbal altercation with an unknown male passing by escalated after he walked away and then returned with three other males.

She reported the four males then began yelling at her before one of them punched her in the face, shot her in the back with a BB gun and threatened her before they fled the area on foot. Police canvassed the area but were unable to locate the male subjects. The woman attended hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

In the early morning hours of Sept. 3, 2022, Patrol members arrested a subject in the 2300 block of Scenic Drive South after a brief foot chase, and with the assistance of the K9 Unit.

Kalan Michael Malmgren of Lethbridge has been charged with assault, assault with a weapon, possession of a weapon dangerous to the public, and resisting arrest. He was released from custody with a scheduled court appearance of Sept. 29, 2022.
