Maskwacis, Alberta – The Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit has laid charges against a man in relation to a homicide on Samson Cree Nation on Sept. 9, 2022.
The deceased in this incident has been identified as 22-year-old Jordie Buffalo-Crier, a resident of Samson Cree Nation. As a result of the investigation, on Sept. 13, 2022, RCMP arrested Kieran Keith Lightning (20), in Wetaskiwin. Lightning has been charged with Second Degree Murder.
Lightning has been remanded into custody with his next court appearance set for Sept. 29, 2022, at Wetaskiwin Provincial Court.
As this matter is now before the courts, the RCMP will not be commenting further

BACKGROUND
Maskwacis, Alberta – The RCMP Major Crimes Unit and Maskwacis RCMP are investigating after a body was found on the Samson Cree Nation on September 9, 2022.
At approximately 7:10 A.M. on September 9th, Maskwacis RCMP were notified that a body had been discovered in a ditch along a rural road on the Samson Cree Nation. The initial investigation deemed the death as suspicious and the Major Crimes Unit is now investigating.
The identity of the deceased will not be released at this time and an autopsy is scheduled for September 13, 2022 in Edmonton.
