Richmond, BC – Richmond RCMP Road Safety Unit conducts joint operation focused on commercial vehicle enforcement.
On September 12, 2022, Richmond RCMP Road Safety Unit (RSU) conducted a joint commercial vehicle operation, which resulted in 62 violations being issued under the Motor Vehicle Act, Motor Vehicle Act Regulations and Commercial Transport Act.
During the operation, 33 commercial vehicles were inspected of which 29 were placed out of service. A commercial vehicle is placed out of service when the vehicle or load its carrying need to be fixed immediately.
This operation was part of the Lower Mainland Commercial Vehicle Enforcement initiative in which multiple agencies join together to conduct enforcement in various jurisdictions, including Richmond.
“Being part of this initiative is extremely important to us as commercial vehicles can cross through multiple cities throughout the Lower Mainland in one day,” says Cpl. Rob Park, NCO in-charge of Richmond RCMP Road Safety Unit, “These vehicles are often carrying large and heavy loads which if not properly secured pose a significant risk to the public.”
Today’s operation included Richmond RCMP RSU, City of Richmond Bylaws, Delta Police, Burnaby RCMP and City of Surrey Commercial Vehicle Inspection Unit.
Richmond is a major hub for commercial vehicle traffic and ensuring the safety of all motorists remains a top priority for Richmond RCMP. As such, Richmond RCMP RSU will continue working with its partner agencies to ensure commercial vehicle operators are complying with the rules and regulations put in place to keep people and our roadways safe.
