UPDATE: RCMP lay charges against a Fort McMurray man in connection to an incident at the Edmonton International Airport on Sept. 24

Leduc, Alberta – RCMP have laid charges against a man in connection to an incident at the Edmonton International Airport on Sept. 24, 2022. Dwight Anthony Bennett (37), a resident of Fort McMurray has been charged with:

· Aggravated Assault

· Assault on Peace Officer

· Assault

· Resist arrest

· Mischief (x2)

· Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

Bennet has been remanded in custody with his next court appearance set for Sept. 28, 2022, at Leduc Provincial Court.

The injured officer was treated at hospital and released.

RCMP would like to correct on piece of information from the previous release. The suspect ran through security unarmed and went to a nearby restaurant in the airport where he armed himself with a piece of cutlery.

Leduc, Alberta – On Sept. 24, 2022, at approximately 8:30 a.m., RCMP at Edmonton International Airport responded to a complaint of a male brandishing a knife who had ran through security unarmed and went to a nearby restaurant in the airport where he armed himself with a piece of cutlery. The officer quickly located the male and an altercation ensued. During the altercation, the officer was injured. He has been taken to hospital in stable condition.

The male suspect is currently in custody.

Due to the quick thinking of YEG security and RCMP, no one else was injured and operations at the airport were not affected.
