Lethbridge Police charge male with attempted murder in connection with domestic assault

Lethbridge, Alberta – Lethbridge Police have charged a 59-year-old male with attempted murder in connection with a domestic assault at a southside home last week.

On September 23, 2022 at approximately 12:30 a.m. police responded to a residence in the Fairmont subdivision and located a 59-year old male and 59-year-old female with stab wounds. Both were transported to hospital by EMS. The male has since been discharged, however the female remains in hospital in stable condition.

Following further investigation, it was determined the male assaulted the female and the injuries he sustained were self-inflicted.

The 59-year-old male, who cannot be identified in order to protect the identity of the victim, is charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault, assault by choking, uttering threats and possession of a dangerous weapon.

Following a Judicial Interim Release hearing he was remanded in custody and is scheduled to appear in court Sept. 30.

As the matter is domestic in nature, no further information will be released.
