Charges laid in the homicide of Shawn McCORMACK

Calgary, Alberta – (Sept. 28, 2022) The man taken into custody yesterday in relation to the July 2022 homicide of Shawn McCORMACK has now been officially charged. Detectives believe that other individuals were involved and expect to make additional arrests as the investigation progresses.

On Sunday, July 3, 2022, at approximately 9:30 a.m., police were called for reports that a body was located in an alley behind the 1100 block of Frontenac Avenue S.W. Upon arrival, officers located a deceased man, later identified as Shawn Garry McCORMACK, 34, of Calgary.

After a thorough review of evidence from the scene, CCTV, and witnesses, investigators identified several suspects who were believed to have targeted McCORMACK. The motive remains under investigation.

Yesterday, Tuesday, Sept. 27, 2022, one man was taken into custody without incident. Devon William SHEDRICK, 29, of Calgary, has since been charged with one count of first-degree murder. He will appear in court today, Wednesday, Sept. 28, 2022.

Investigators are also still looking for information about a unique comforter that was left at the scene where McCORMACK’s body was located. The comforter is believed to have significance to the investigation and has an image of a dream catcher and two white birds on it. A photo is available on The City of Calgary Newsroom.

The investigation is ongoing and additional arrests are expected.

Anyone with information about the owner of the comforter or who may have seen it prior to McCORMACK’s death is asked to contact police.

Calgary, Alberta – Homicide detectives have taken one man into custody in relation to the death of Shawn Garry McCormack, who was found deceased in Upper Mount Royal in July 2022. Investigators believe additional suspects were involved in the homicide and continue to look for the public’s help to bring closure to the victim’s family.

On Sunday, July 3, 2022, at approximately 9:30 a.m., police were called for reports that a body was located in an alley behind the 1100 block of Frontenac Avenue S.W. Upon arrival, officers located a deceased man, later identified as Shawn Garry McCORMACK, 34, of Calgary.

After reviewing evidence from the scene, scouring CCTV footage and speaking to witnesses, detectives believe several individuals were involved in the homicide. While the motive remains under investigation, we have confirmed this incident was targeted.

Earlier this morning, today, Tuesday, Sept. 27, 2022, detectives took one man into custody in relation to the investigation. Investigators are in the process of interviewing this suspect, and when charges are formally laid, his identity will be released.

Calgary, Alberta – We are looking for the public’s help to identify the owner of a unique comforter that was left at the scene of a July 2022 homicide.

On Sunday, July 3, 2022, at approximately 9:30 a.m., police were called for reports that a body was found in an alley behind the 1100 block of Frontenac Avenue S.W. Upon arrival, officers located a deceased man, later identified as Shawn Garry McCORMACK, 34, of Calgary. His death was determined to have been the result of a homicide.

Homicide detectives continue to investigate the events that led to McCORMACK’s death and are releasing an image of a multi-coloured comforter which was left at the scene. The comforter is believed to have significance to the investigation and has an image of a dream catcher and two white birds on it.

Upper Mount Royal homicide victim identified

Our Homicide Unit continues to investigate after a man was found deceased in the southwest community of Upper Mount Royal last weekend.

On Sunday, July 3, 2022, at approximately 9:30 a.m., police were called for reports that a body was located in an alley behind the 1100 block of Frontenac Avenue S.W.

Upon arrival, officers located a deceased man, and the death is now considered to be a homicide.

An autopsy completed by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner identified the victim as Shawn Garry MCCORMACK, 34, of Calgary.

Investigators believe this was a targeted incident and are looking to speak with anyone who has information on the last known whereabouts of MCCORMACK or the events leading up to his death.

“We are seeking information from witnesses that can further our investigation,” says Acting Staff Sergeant Lee Treit of the Calgary Police Homicide Unit. “We are committed to following up on all investigative leads to find answers for the family and friends of the victim.”

Police investigating after body found in Upper Mount Royal

Our Homicide Unit is on scene and investigating after a body was found in an alley by a citizen out walking their dog.

Police were called today, Sunday, July 3, 2022, at approximately 9:30 a.m., for reports of a body that was located in an alley behind the 1100 block of Frontenac Avenue S.W. Upon arrival, officers located a deceased male. The death is considered suspicious.

Investigators are in the process of speaking with nearby residents and collecting CCTV from the area to determine how the man ended up in the alley. Any residents who have not yet spoken with police and have CCTV from the area are asked to contact police by calling 403-266-1234.

An autopsy will be scheduled for early this week.
