St. Albert, Alberta – On Sunday afternoon, at 4:20 p.m., St. Albert RCMP received a 911 call about a suspicious adult male at the Lacombe Playground in St. Albert who was exhibiting erratic behavior.
At 4:24 p.m., an officer was dispatched, conducted patrols of the area, but could not locate the individual. At approximately 5:30 p.m., a second 911 call was received describing the same individual at the Lacombe Playground. At 5:37 p.m., officers arrived and located the male suspect who was observed to be acting in an erratic manner.
Despite efforts, officers were unable to determine the identity of the male and due to concerns for his safety and that of the public he was taken into police custody.
While in police custody at the St. Albert Detachment cells, the male began engaging in self-harm. St. Albert RCMP officers immediately contacted EMS, who attended and provided first aid before transporting him to hospital at approximately 6:45 p.m.
At 7:26 p.m., a missing person report was received by the St. Albert Detachment and investigators were able to identify the missing 16-year-old male youth as the individual that had been involved in the aforementioned incident.
Alberta RCMP will be reviewing this incident and the actions of the involved officers.
