Strathmore RCMP: Report of Impaired Driver Leads to Recovery of Stolen Vehicle

Wheatland County, Alberta – On October 1, 2022 at approximately 2:00 p.m. Strathmore RCMP received a report of a possible impaired driver on Highway 1 West of Strathmore. A White utility van was reportedly swerving within the lane and had drifted off the shoulder on occasion. Strathmore members responded and located the vehicle on Highway 1 in the area of Range Road 233. The vehicle had stopped on the shoulder of the road and the male driver exited in a confused state. Along with symptoms of liquor consumption, a roadside breath sample indicated a warning which led to a 72 hour suspension. Further investigation revealed the male was subject to a driving suspension and subject to release conditions on a matter from Manitoba. Additionally, the vehicle the male as in possession of had been reported stolen in Calgary less than six hours prior.

The male was arrested and transported to Strathmore Detachment for a bail hearing. Scott LAROCQUE a 42 year old resident of Steinbach, Manitoba was charged with Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000, and Failure to Comply with a Condition of Release X 2. Additional Traffic Safety Act charges were levied in relation to the suspended driving. LAROCQUE was remanded into custody to appear at a later date. The vehicle was returned to the owner.
