Police lay charge in north Edmonton homicide

Edmonton, Alberta – The Edmonton Police Service has charged a youth in relation to the death of a 20-year-old man last week in north central Edmonton.

At approximately 7:40 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 10, 2022, Northwest Patrol officers responded to the report of an altercation in the area of 120 Avenue and 82 Street. Upon arrival, officers located a male who was suffering from a stab wound. EMS treated and transported the 20-year-old male victim to hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

An autopsy was completed by the Edmonton Medical Examiner on Friday, Oct. 14, 2022, and determined that Dakota Peter died as a result of a stab wound. The manner of death is homicide.

Investigators have since arrested and charged a 17-year-old male with manslaughter. Because the accused is a youth, he cannot be named per the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
