Cypress County, Alberta – Redcliff RCMP are warning the public of online scams involving the sale of hay and straw.
Since October of 2022, there have been numerous reports of fraudulent sales of hay and straw bales on Facebook. A seller posting by the name of ‘Maxwel Jakes’ will suggest that hay and straw bales are available for purchase in the Cypress County and Medicine Hat areas. Payment is then made by the buyer via e-transfer however, no hay or straw is ever received.
To avoid further victims of this scam, police are issuing a warning to the public to use caution if purchasing hay or straw online.
