Leduc RCMP charge two people for break and enter to local business

Leduc, Alberta – On Dec. 13, 2022 at approximately 12:45 a.m., Leduc RCMP were dispatched to a break and enter in progress at a business in the area of Sparrow Drive in Leduc.

Leduc RCMP members with the assistance of the RCMP Police Dog Services, attended the business and observed a suspect running through a ditch in an attempt to evade police. Following a short foot pursuit, the suspect was arrested. A second suspect involved in the break and enter was located and arrested a short distance away.

As a result of the investigation, the following individuals were charged:

Simon John Kurgan (33), a resident of Leduc, with:

Break and enter to commit theft

Obstructing a Peace Officer

Mischief over $5,000.

Branden Dwayne Land (26), a resident of Leduc, with:

Break and enter to commit theft

Mischief over $5,000.

Following a judicial hearing, Kurgan and Land were released from custody. Their next court appearance is scheduled for Jan. 5, 2023 in Leduc provincial court.

“Our officers work hard ensuring we respond quickly, efficiently and effectively to calls for service in order to bring offenders to justice” says Inspector Jeff McBeth, Detachment Commander for Leduc RCMP. “This incident is one example of how quick notification to police, team work, and a thorough investigation can interrupt a crime in progress and protect our communities.”
