RCMP Traffic Services East arrests Bay Roberts man for drug impaired driving

Bay Roberts, Newfoundland and Labrador – A 24-year-old man, who was stopped for speeding, was arrested for drug impaired driving last night by RCMP Traffic Services East.

At approximately 10:30 p.m., police observed a vehicle traveling 72km/h in a 40km/h zone in Butlerville and conducted a traffic stop. The driver showed signs of cannabis impairment and tested positive on roadside screening equipment for cannabis. He was arrested for impaired driving and a blood sample was obtained at Carbonear General Hospital.

The investigation is continuing. Officers await the results of the blood analysis to determine if charges of impaired driving are appropriate.

Police remind motorists of the dangers of impaired driving. RCMP Traffic Services will be conducting increased enforcement over the holiday season to ensure roadways are safe for everyone.
